Quincy Trackplan

Here is a copy of the trackplan that was included in the kits. Their trackplan shows a double track mainline for use in a module club. The prototype was a single track mainline, which is what I'm doing.

Machine shop build

Started to build the machine shop that sits across the tracks from the engine house. Campbell uses their warehouse kit for this, but it's not quite right. According to the April, 1963 article in MR, it appears the building is longer and taller. Also the photo and sketch the author did, shows what appears to be 2 large doors,on the trackside. For my build I used Grandt line door and windows. I drew out the building on some cardstock, cut out the doors and windows and used Campbell corrugated metal to sheath it. I have no idea about the back side, so I added in a few windows, for light, guessing on placement, quantity and window style.
All ready for weathering and assembly.

Partially assembled, need roof and some sort of interior details.
The ice house is to the right.

Wiring the first module

Started wiring up the first module. Using Tortoise switchmachines with Barrett Hill control system. (www.touchtoggle.com) I'm going to use the Woodland Scenics light system, which you can see in the lower right. All  the connections are solidered with heat shrink tubing over the joints. I've got spade connectors on the ends that go to the terminal strip. I'm using zip ties and tie pads from Lowe's to help keep everything need and tidy.

The turnout controller is on the center cross piece along the upper edge.

Painting track

I've got the track done on one module and am painting the rails and ties. The white rectangle near the Tamiya bottle is the base for the engine house. I'll be gluing down a wood floor once the rail is painted. I'm using Model Masters burnt umber and brown. Once it's dry, I'll go over it with some AK washes and powders.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog that will be documenting my Quincy Railroad module build. The prototype is a shortline  that connects the Western Pacific, ( Now UP)  to Quincy, California. The track plan is from the Quincy Campbell kits. The only change I made is to remove the second mainline, as the prototype is a single track.

I Built three 2x4 modules so I can transport this to train shows in the future.
